When Peyton Manning was trying to figure out which NFL team he was going to be playing for in 2012, one of his former wide receivers was there to help him out. While Manning was interviewing with the Denver Broncos, it was Brandon Stokley who offered him a place to stay that night. Little did Stokley know, that with Manning ultimately signing with the Broncos, his career would soon be revived.

Stokley played with Manning in Indianapolis for four seasons. In 41 games he caught 145 passes for 1,916 yards and 15 touchdowns. His best season was in 2004 when he caught 68 passes for 1,077 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was the epitome of what Manning wanted in a slot receiver (and in my opinion the major reason why the New England Patriots subsequently signed slot receiver Wes Welker to be a valuable asset for Tom Brady). Indeed one could say that he was the best slot receiver that Manning ever threw to.

Stokley's added value is that he is also mentoring these young receivers in what Manning expects of them. Most certainly if the Broncos don't decide to keep Stokley around on the official roster when the season starts, they should keep him around as a wide receivers coach. His biggest impact, however, would be on the field if he could stay healthy and effective. Another 1,000-yard season would be likely, and the Broncos would reap the benefits of having him around for a deep playoff run.
